Is there anything wrong with gay marriage? Some have said it strenthens the institution of marriage. Even Ted (the swimmer) Kennedy has stated that it is good for marriage by pointing out that Massachusetts has gay marriage and the lowest divorce rate in the U.S. Is this the end of the debate? I ask that the following chart be considered:
Rank ...State ..Fertility Rate* ...Status of Gay Marriage**
1.... Utah .............92.3 .......Banned by Constituional Amendment
2 ....Arizona........ 79.5 .......Banned by Constitutional Amendment
3 ....Idaho ............77.2....... Banned by Constituional Amendment
4.... Alaska........... 74.4...... Banned by Constituional Amendment
5 ....Hawaii........... 74.0 ......Banned by Constituional Amendment
.
. U.S. Average 66.3
.
46.... Massachusetts.. 56.5..... Gay Marriage
47.... Rhode Island..... 55.0..... Not recently defined
48.. New Hampshire.. 53.4..... Civil Unions
49... Maine.................. 52.4 ......Domestic partnerships
50 ....Vermont ............51.8....... Civil Unions

It is clear that there is some connection between support for the traditional concept of marriage and procreation. While Massachusetts does have the lowest divorce rate it also has a very low birth rate showing that marriage has lost its ultimate purpose (procreation) there even for hetero sexuals. A nation that depopulates itself voluntarily will not survive for long as the principle of natural selection will replace it with a polulation willing to procreate. Do you know of any people willing to procreate? Another chart:
Nation/ Total Fertility Rate*
Afghanistan 6.69
Yemen 6.58
Iraq 4.18
Pakistan 4.0
Saudi Araabia 4.0
Syria 3.40
Bangladesh 3.11
.
World Average 2.59
Replacement level 2.10
United States 2.09
European Union 1.47
