Immigration and Abortion

It has been often argued that there is no need for illegal immigration, that we have enough people here to do all the work that needs to be done. The thinking goes on to say that if we paid a decent wage, Americans would do the jobs the illegals do now. Its those greedy small businesses that supposedly are ruining our country. The data shows that that in fact we are not producing enough people to fuel our economy. Consider the following data:

Total Non Farm Employment

Year________Employees
1970................. 71,176,000
2000.............. 130,078,000
Increase........... 58,902,000
(Source: U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Population
Births 1970 - 2000........114,735,000
Deaths 1970 - 2000........65,011,000
Procreative Increase.......49,724,000
(Source: U.S. Census Bureau)

As you can see, over the last 30 years of the 20th Century, the United States added close to 60 million new jobs to the economy but only about 50 million new people. Who filled those 10 million additional new jobs? Its true that more working women entered the job market and people are living longer but that is only part of the answer. It was the immigrants that we depend upon because we do not produce enough people. How do we produce enough people?
